Mitch Clem versus the Establishment
the cover to Razorcake and barely break twenty? You've all turned on me!Okay shitheads. When did everyone stop posting replies to my LiveJournal updates? I used to be able to post nothing but the word "oatmeal" and get two hundred comments. Now I do |
Seriously, is it because I'm not posting comics? I figured as much. As I've said, I'm busy working on my next book, and, between that and my freelance stuff, there's just nothing I can post online right now!
But, fuck it. At least I can announce the book.
Coming this Fall, from New Reliable Press, is MY STUPID LIFE: VOLUME ONE by Mitch Clem!
The book features the entire online archives of My Stupid Life so far, AS WELL AS the entire run of my first autobiographical comic, San Antonio Rock City! Plus about ten or so never-before-seen strips from both series that I drew and never put online for whatever reasons (Mitch Clem: too hot for the internet).
Now, obviously I was dating different people in the time that I did each series, and it would be weird in the book to turn the page and all of a sudden I have a new girlfriend, no explanation (besides the fact that SARC ended in a shroud of mystery to begin with), so I'm also creating a bridge between the two series that will lead from the end of SARC to the beginning of MSL. This will not serve as a tell-all about the end of my relationship with Victoria, by the way. I'm not interested in shit-talking an ex to people who don't even know her. The bridge focuses more on the beginning of my relationship with Amanda, and a fun transition period between the two relationships where I slept on my friend Bryan's couch for a while, and we got drunk and watched the same episode of the Office every night. Fun! This section will be lavishly illustrated by yours truly, and will most likely feature a few more brand new comic strips where I deem appropriate.
Also, th ebook will measure 7"x7" square, the same size as the NN2S book, so they'll look nice on the shelf together.
And that's that! So that's what I'm working on right now, and obviously I can't show you all the original content here in the blog or that would defeat the purpose of it being book-exclusive, but I'll share some bits and pieces here and there, deal?
Keep up the good work, Mitch.
British or American Office?
Either is obviously acceptable.
The first episode of the American one that Joss Whedon directed.
it's okay, i still love and respect you.
I morally and financially support your artistic endeavors. Go team Mitch!
You hit it on the nose. No comics, no comments. I'm that fickle. Please note that as payment for this comment, you owe me one comic. But there's good news! I'm not picky, so you can update whichever one you want.
There's a beautiful two-page long comic drawed by me and watercolored by Amanda in the next Razorcake (#50), so there you go.
More nudes please :[
and after you posted about the Razorcake podcast, I've stricken up takling to them and I'm going to try and write for them now :)
hope robbing that bank is working out for you
I had this feeling that's what the new material was. Awesome. I just hope that douche who was saying Victoria was a better character doesn't show up again.
That was several douches, but yeah. That happens anytime I try and do something new, people only want what I had been doing before. Now they can have the best of both worlds!
I was wondering what happened between the two.
Short story: I threw up on a church.
Very stoked for the MSL book. =]
I got laid off and spend all my time either working freelance or looking for a new gig.
Don't worry soon as I'm paid to goof off I'll make ALL KINDS of comments!
Amen! I was going to say it's possible people are growing unemployment beards, being drunk, and/or playing MarioKart (and maybe job hunting) instead of spending the kind of time on ye olde LJ that we used to. I don't grow a beard thanks to two x chromosomes, but know this, Mitch Clem: silent fan love is still love, just...you know, now fueled by 20% more PBR!
PS, I saw the covers again on Vinyl Collective, I especially love those and the Razorcake work is monumentally rad.
Feel better? :D
Jesus, FINE. Here you go, Mitch. I am justifying your existence. Are you happy now?!
That Mitch Clem guy was funnier when he talked about punk rock. What's all this touchy-feely watercolored Jane Austen shit?
Yay, you finally posted about oatmeal again!
Yeah, whatever happened to fuckin' OATMEAL, man? I only came for the Oatmeal. Oatmeal was a much better character. Oatmeal was punk rock. Oatmeal never sold out, unlike you, Mitch. OATMEAL!
I used to be able to post nothing but the word "oatmeal" and get two hundred comments.
Don't you know The Rule? The less you write, the more people comment! I swear it's true.
Very true. I write diatribes and people don't say shit, and I post a quick meme or something and get tons of replies.
Even better if there's pictures. The more pictures, the less comments. One cute dog picture is better than several, I guess.
This post angers me and I'm never going to buy your stupid shitty book, also you are a fuckface.
Also it is opposite day today!
If it IS opposite day, then you are actually saying it is NOT opposite day, therefore your comment is just dumb and rude. And if in fact, it is NOT opposite day to begin with, by saying it IS opposite day you are a liar, and your comment still stands.
I just started posting on the forum and, naturally, stopped reading your comics or blog (like the rest of them.)
Could be worse, it could be the original forum, where the pattern was 1) start posting, 2) stop reading my comics, 3) hate me with every fiber of your being.
So you've been drawing that entire episode of the office. that is going to take forever!
So many uncomfortable pauses.
Heres a comment. By the way, I think every time you've been in fort worth I forgot who you were. sorry.
Did I hang out with you there? I usually just go straight to my friends Dave and Melissa's place.
